Merrill's Marauders
An American infantry animal pack column shown crossing a jungle stream during the advance into Northern Burma behind withdrawing Japanese troops. These men, with other members of ground forces led by Brigadier General Frank Merrill are the first to fight as a unit on the continent of Asia. They are known as "Merrill's Marauders." The pictures were taken under sniper and artillery fire during their successful capture of Walawbum in Burma's Hukawng Valley
