The Diving Bell
A diving bell is lowered into the River Thames after an irruption of water into the Thames Tunnel, 1827. Rotherhithe Church is in the background. Isambard Kingdom Brunel supervised the repair operation after the leak, which occurred on 18th May, using bags of clay to mend the hole. Engraved by George Cooke after a drawing by Clarkson Stanfield, ARA. (Photo by Hulton Archive/Getty Images)
