Skye Crofters
circa 1910: Two crofters work their land on the Isle of Skye with the Cas Chrom, or crooked spade. The isle of Skye, in north west Scotland, is the largest of the Inner Hebrides, separated from the mainland by a narrow channel. Skye is a rugged island dominated by the Cuillin Hills. In addition to fishing, farming and the production of whisky, tourism now provides an important source of income for the island. Since 1995 Skye has been connected to the mainland by a road bridge.
