Meaghers Zouaves
Illustration of one of Meaghers Zouaves, a member of the 69th New York regiment of volunteer Civil War soldiers, 1860s. Zouaves were soldiers who wore unusual uniforms, imitating French and Turkish designs of the late 1700s and early 1800s. Meaghers Zouaves were distinguished by dark blue jackets with red trim, sky blue sashes and vests with red trim, sky blue baggy pants with tan gaiters, and dark blue caps with yellow tassels.
