Pancreatic Islet (Islet of Langerhans), Pancreas, Human--100X. Within the islet, the Beta Cells secrete insulin, and the Alpha Cells secrete glucagon. The Beta Cells are more numerous. Surrounding the islet are the Acinar Cells which produce an exocrine product (pancreatic juice that contains enzymes). Shows capillaries and red blood cells (very lightly stained) in the islet. The hormones are secreted into the blood.
