A cricket match taking place at The Oval cricket ground in Kennington, London. The Oval is the home of Surrey County Cricket Club and was the first ground in England to host a test match in 1880. The ground was a market garden until the club was able to persuade the owner (the Duchy of Cornwall) to allow them to change its use to a cricket ground. From The Boys Own Paper 1879-80, a British newspaper for boys which was at that time published by the Religious Tract Society and which featured stories, heroic deeds, facts, educational items and illustrations
