Benito Mussolini, in full Benito Amilcare Andrea Mussolini, by name Il Duce (Italian: “The Leader”) was born July 29 1883 in Predappio, Italy and died April 28 1945, near Dongo. He was a journalist and leader of the National Fascist Party. Italian prime minister from 1922 to 1943 he was first of Europe’s 20th Century fascist dictators constitutionally leading the country until 1925, when he dropped the pretense of democracy and established a dictatorship.
