George Washington
circa 1789: George Washington (1732 - 1799), the 1st President of the United States of America (1789 - 1797). At the outbreak of the American Revolution he was chosen as Commander in Chief. After the war he retired, but in 1787 resumed politics. He was elected President in 1789 and re-elected in 1793. He refused to serve a third term. He is buried at Mount Vernon. Fluted cardboard backing held with clips. Supplied ready to hang with sawtooth hanger and rubber bumpers. Spot clean with a damp cloth. Packaged foam wrapped in a card.
