Reflected Hospital
9th July 1955: The nurses home and corridor bridge at a new hospital in Alexandria, in the Leven Valley. It is the first hospital to be built in Britain since 1938 and has 156 beds, a figure which can be stretched to 280 in an emergency. The hospital has been designed to be light and airy, with lots of large windows and glass passageways, and is decorated in bright colours to make the patients feel comfortable and avoid the drabness of traditional hospitals. The nurses have a new, more practical uniform and their own bedrooms which open onto a shared lounge and kitchenette.
