Trailing Vortex
19th May 1970: The tornado effect left in the wake of aeroplanes which can last for several minutes and may cause serious accidents as pilots follow aircraft into apparantly calm air. NASA have investigated this by releasing coloured smoke into the air and then flying an aeroplane through it which makes the effect visible. (Photo by Central Press/Getty Images)
