Strikers Game
May 1926: A group of miners passing the time with a game of cards outside Prestonpans Colliery, East Lothian, during industrial action at the time of the General Strike. The General Strike involved key industries, such as public transport, building and printing, taking industrial action to support the miners protest against government plans to increase hours and lower pay. Members of the Armed Forces were drafted in to help with essential work but the strikes only lasted nine days from May 4th to May 12th. (Photo by Central Press/Getty Images)
