A tree root shatters this temple in Ta Phrom, Cambodia
Ta Prohm is a well-known temple at Angkor, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. It was built in the Bayon style, largely in the late 12th and early 13th centuries. Rescued from the forest, it is famed for its trees which are slowly crushing, smashing and inundating the surviving buildings. This particular tree is a Tetrameles nudiflora

Two gracious ladies in Ta Prohm Temple, Cambodia
Angkor Thom, Cambodia - 19 January 2005
A triumph of Medieval Khmer culture, the treasures of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom in Cambodia are incomparable. Angkor Thom (Great City) was the last and most enduring capital city of the Khmer empire. It was established in the late twelfth century by King Jayavarman VII. Many of its temples were submerged by tropical forest for centuries, and trees continue to shatter and pierce the ruins. Ta Phrom was built in the 12th to 13th centuries and, like all temples here, is covered by rich and sensuous carvings of gods, kings and apsaras - divine dancers - as shown here
