The history of nursery rhymes can be traced back centuries.  They have a strong oral tradition, and many were sung as folk songs long before they were written down or illustrated in a range of styles, from classic and traditional to modern and abstract, some with text or captions from the nursery rhymes, with others relying solely on the images to convey the story.
