Map of the Kiel Canal (German: Nord-Ostsee-Kanal, formerly known as the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Kanal). The canal is a 95-kilometre (59 mi) long freshwater canal in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein and was finished in 1895, but later widened, and links the North Sea at BrunsbAOEttel to the Baltic Sea at Kiel-Holtenau.
