12th June 1898: Camp McCalla in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, during the Spanish-American War. The US Marines, wearing garrison caps are members of Colonel Robert Watkinson Huntingtons 1st Marine Battalion. Cuban Mambises (insurgents) wearing straw hats are under the command of insurgent Cuban Lt. Colonel Tomas, and are dressed in sailor uniforms provided by Captain Bowman H. McCalla, USN, force commander and captain of the U.S.S. Marblehead.
