The Padrao do Salado is a curious building located in Largo da Oliveira Guimares, and is a unique monument in Portugal for its features.
Its construction was ordered in 1342 by King Dom Afonso IV Portugal to commemorate the victory in the battle of the banks of the river Salado in Tarifa.
Guimares is a portuguese city of Braga District, with about 52, 000 inhabitants in the core and about 161, 876 within the municipality. The historic center of Guimares was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2001. Guimares, along with Maribor, was European Capital of Culture in 2012
