Ruins of Convento de San Agustin (San Agustin Church) in Antigua Guatemala
The construction of the Church and Convent of San AgustAin in Antigua was completed in 1657, it had a Renaissance style. It suffered 1, 717 earthquake damage, recommended various arrangements, but notable economic difficulties made it impossible to complete effective reconstruction. In 1, 751 there were new earthquakes due to other earthquakes, to which must be added those caused by the earthquakes of Santa Marta in July 1, 773. The facade topped with the image of San AgustAin, however, still appears intact.
Antigua and San Agustin Ruins are today a favorite tourist destination as a partially restored colonial city with majestic churches and monasteries and cobblestone streets. Antigua was listed as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1979
