Framed Print of Archbishop in Ceremonial Robes
(Original Caption). To Wear Japanese Robe at Coronation. London, England: The Archbishop of Canterbury, carrying the Primatial Cross, displays the cope (or cloak) he will wear at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in June. The cope was presented to him in 1948 by Bishop Yashiro, the presiding bishop of the church in Japan, on behalf of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. It is made of pure Japanese fabric, silks, and bocades by craftsmen of the brotherhood. The garment was presented as a token of world-wide fellowship of The Anglican Communion in Christ and in grateful appreciation for the opportunity accorded to the three Japanese bishops to attend the Lambeth Conference.
