Seattle, Washington: Pan American World Airways announced today the purchase of 45 American built jet transport planes for service on regular overseas commercial flights beginning December 1958. Introduction of the Boeing 707 jet stratoliners will, in effect, make the world 40 percent smaller, William Allen, Boeing president said. Most major cities of the free world will be only 12 hours or less from the United States. The Boeing 707 -- as pictured here -- will carry 104 passengers with standard seating and 125 in tourist will have a contract cruising speed of 575 miles per hour at 30, 000 feet. What all this means to future air travelers was demonstrated last week when the above pictured Boeing 707 averaged 550 miles per hour under test conditions on a 3, 038 mile nonstop test flight at 35, 000 feet. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
