Framed Print of Claude Rains Getting His Hair Dyed
(Original Caption). For the first time in his 60 years as a actor Claude Rains has had his hair dyed. He plays the key role of Professor George Edward Challenger in Irwin Allen's adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World. The character was Doyle's favorite, even more so than the famed Sherlock Holmes. He was a redhead in the book to portray his fiery temperment and thus Rains had to play him as a redhead. Although the hair which is steel gray, is his own, Rains had to spend two hours each day in makeup to get ready for the day's shooting getting his hair dyed and applying the false beard. Putting on the makeup are Ben Nye, head of makeup at 20th Century-Fox, and Helen Turpin, head of hair styling at the studio both were called in daily to apply the hairsuit adornment to the famed 70-year-old actor. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
