(Original Caption). August 23, 1922. Motion-Picture Camera Which Records Sounds. Professor Joseph T. Tykociner of the University of Illinois, has perfected a machine after twenty years of experimenting, which photographs sound as well as material objects. The ringing of a bell, the slamming of a door, and the human voice, are reproduced with amazing accuracy. The apparatus photographs the object and the sound at the same itme. It is equipped with a mercury arc of special construction. The intensity of light varies in accordance with the speech of the actor and the light from the arc is focussed upon the moving film by a sound recording instrument. The sound record is a narrow band of varying transparancey, running along the edge of the film. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
