(Original Caption) 10/28/1950-Chicago, IL- One solution to the growing traffic congestion problem in the U.S. has been suggested by designer George F. Miller of Chicago, who thinks a flying saucer bus is the answer. This artist's conception of Miller's saucer-shaped, 100-passenger airbus is from Science and Mechanics Magazine. The vehicle, 65 feet in diameter and 10 1/2 feet high, would weigh from 80, 000 to 110, 000 pounds. It would fly with three counter-rotating pairs of 14-foot diameter props or rotors. Each rotor pair would be driven by a pancake-type 2, 400 horsepower engine. Speed of this aerial commuter transport would be 90 to 175 miles an hour. Illustration. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass).
