Winners in the Frank Filan Memorial Award Contest, Corte took first prize in the political category with his photo of a shy girl hiding her face as Vice President Nixon and Mrs. Nixon attend an open house at a Washington grammar school, and Whalen took first prize in the feature category with his photo of a swan at Echo Park Lake, N.J. kibitzing as a woman tends to her knitting.
