(Original Caption). Romance on horseback still flourishes in Argentina. There, across the wide reaches of the Pampas, rides the gaucho, Latin America's cowboy. In dress, manner and custom, the gaucho is a swashbuckling type, quick to song and laughter. Unlike his U.S. counterpart - at least, the fictionalized version - he is quick to appreciate a pretty face. He decks his horse in trappings for that of a king. These photos by United Press staff photographer Keith E. Byron offer a closeup of the Argentine's colorful gaucho, his life and good times. The asado is one of the gaucho's favorite pastimes. It's similar to the U.S.-style barbeque. The gauchos prepare beef by running long iron rods through strips of it and standing the rods before the fire. Note this gaucho's belt, a prized possession. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
