That movie and Wuthering Heights, also released in 1939, were her first Hollywood efforts. At the time, a reviewer for the New York Times praised Miss Fitzgerald for her sentient and touching portrayal of a character in Dark Victory. Now critics and audiences are praising her for her nightclub act in which she sings what she calls street songs, the songs I used to sing as a young girl in the streets of Dublin and in the Irish countryside. She also sings some English airs. I call them street songs, she explains, because they can be performed anywhere. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm).
