(Original Caption). Of all the sporting events that take place in the world every year, none is more magnificent then the Gioco del Calcio'-the 16th Century football game staged in Florence, Italy. Twice each year this flamorous city tears a page from its illustrious past and recreates the brilliant pageantry and heraldry of the colorful past. For the carnival of which the football game is the highspot, 700 members of the oldest and most prominent Florentine families don the costumes of their ancestors and parade through the principal streets to the Piazza della Signoria, where the game is played by costumed players under the rules and regulations of the 16th Century. The game was first played in 1530, when Florence was besieged by the Prince of Orange. To show its contempt for the attackers, The garrison of the city staged the game within sight of the enemy. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass).
