(Original Caption). A Marine Corps Helicopter picked up the building which had housed it and flew off with it in a hangar-toting demonstration at Quantico yesterday. Colonel Henry C. Lane, Chief of Material for the Marine Corps Aviation Division said it was the first time in history that an aircraft has flown off with its own hangar in a completely erected state. The demonstration was part of a display of lightweight inexpensive new dome shaped structures which some officers believe will revolutionize military housing in combat areas within a few years. Photo shows the helicopter airlifting its vinyl-coated cover. The covered dome beneath the framework is of a smaller size, designed for field office use. Designed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the dome is 50 feet in diameter, 25 feet high and weighs 1, 180 pounds, less the duck cover. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
