(Original Caption) 1943-Lucille Ball, on bended knee beneath all those skirts, pleads with Red Skelton for the life of her betrothed in this scene from Du Barry Was a Lady, a gay technicolor musical based on the New York stage success. It is the story of a wool-gathering checkroom custodian who drinks a mickey finn and imagines himself King Louis XV. The film features Gene Kelly, Virginia O'Brien, Rags Ragland, Zero Mostel, Donald Meek, Douglass Dumbrille and George Givot. Tommy Dorsey and his band furnish music for the comedy, which was directed by Roy Del Ruth and produced by Arthur Freed for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
