(Original Caption). Hamburg: Recent picture of 16-months-old Uwe Sempf, who is the key figure in West Germany's first Thalidomide trial which opened in Hamburg Jan. 23. But the trial lasted only five minutes, when the court adjourned the case to give the plaintiff more time to produce more evidence. Uwe's father, 36-year-old Guenther Sempf, asks 30.000 Marks ($7.500) in compensation for congenial malformations suffered by the child from Chemic Gruenenthal, the plant that produced Thalidomide, known in Germany as Contergan, a sleeping drug. More than 4000 suits are pending against the plant. The Hamburg trial was regarded as a test case which holds at stake the future of 5.000 malformed babies, the mothers of which had taken Contergan drugs while expecting. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass).
