The subpoena, from the House Subcommittee on Legislative Oversight, was flown here from Washington and rushed to Lunney's office October 13 after it was learned that the 33-year-old scion of a leading literary family had come to New York after spending a long weekend in New England. Carl J. Rubino, Van Doren's attorney, denied accusations that the young Columbia University instructor had evaded service of a subpoena. He said that Van Doren had no knowledge of such a subpoena and was ready to go to Washington to testify before the Subcommittee, which is investigating alleged TV quiz-fixing.
