Maxine Sullivan, colored torch singer who is called the queen of the jam songstresses, is pictured at the top of her swing as she applies her torch to Loch Lomond at the Onyx Club here, where she holds forth to the delight of the devotees of swing music and the ire of sentimentalists who frown upon the blood-tingling manner in which she sings their old favorites. The pros and cons of the matter are a subject for verbal battle whenever or wherever members of the two schools of thought meet. Maxine, who is only 26, was born and raised in Homestead, Pennsylvania. She has never had a singing lesson. Her husband is John Kirby, the leader of her band. Maxine says that she prefers the the famous ancient ballads because a popular tune is dead by the time it is really put over. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass).
