(Original Caption). Sanitation. Cotoca, Bolivia: The sandy, dusty streets of Cotoca, about 20 kilometers east of Santa Cruz. This poor town of about 2, 600 people turns dusty in the dry season and muddy in the wet. Three years ago only about ten percent of the homes in the town had latrines. Today, through the UNICEF-assisted sanitation programme, about 90 percent have latrines. Two-thirds of Bolivia's five million people live in rural areas. But little more than two percent of the rural population has clean portable water supplies and less than one percent of rural homes have latrines. It is these conditions which cause upwards of 90 percent of all adults and children in the rural areas to suffer from intestinal parasites. In 1968, the Bolivian government, with UNICEF help, started a program to alleviate thse conditions. At its start, the program provided a well to those villages pr. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
