Framed Print of New Zeppelin Invented by Gerhard Gembe
(Original Caption) 7/1/1955- Frankfurt, Germany: Invents New Zeppelin. German Architect Gerhard Gembe, 30, of Wiesbaden, displays the model of a new air ship, for which he has plans ready and patented. A departure from the standard, cigar-shaped Zeppelins of the past, the new ship has the shape of a flattened cigar. The new airship has, instead of gondolas for engines and propellers, several openings in its nose and exhaust holes in its taile for the air to flow through its structure lengthwise. In the center of each air channel, two counter rotating propellers, driven by 16 diesel engines, each with a 4500 horsepower capacity, give the ship a cruising speed of about 250 miles per hour.
