This 20-story cigarette advertisement, which a public relations firm describes as being one of the largest signs ever painted, now towers over Eighth Avenue and 34th Street. The painted area of the recently completed sign covers nearly half an acre on the side of an Eighth Avenue building and the cigarette package alone is 136 feet high and 84 feet wide (229, 436 times larger than an actual package). Eight painters, working on alternating teams, spent 1, 400 man-hours on the project. During their labors, they applied 125 gallons of paint to the sign which overlooks Madison Square Garden. Located in the heart of one of New York's biggest garment, sports and retailing centers, the sign is said to have a daily potential audience of a quarter of a million persons. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
