The 1, 000th B-47 Stratojet bomber to be produced at the Wichita plant of the Boeing Aircraft Company is rolled out at the plant October 14th as some 25, 000 employees watch at a special ceremony also attended by high defense and governmental officials. In a wire from his vacation headquarters, President Eisenhower hailed the significant event in the building up of our defense structure to meet the threat of Communist aggression. The ceremony spotlighted the fact that well above 1, 000 of the 600 mile-an-hour atomic bombers now could be hurled at an enemy in a retaliatory attack. Besides the planes produced at the Wichita plant, undisclosed numbers have been produced by other aircraft firms. Plastered to the sides of the plane are coins and bills totaling more than $8, 000 donated by employees to the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
