Framed Print of Pilot Inspecting Damaged Front of Experimental Glider

(Original Caption). A new chapter in the dramatic story of man's attempts to fly...by his own physical power. Although it hardly matters; an intrepid group of British air pioneers still struggles to get man airborne with no greater source of power than his own muscles. They are competing for a 10, 000 pound prize which will eventually be awarded to the first man-powered plane to fly a 1, 000 meter figure-8 course under given conditions. Latest effort to crush in sight of success was this cross between a glider and a bicycle, launched by young Royal Air Force experimenters. Pedalled furiously by Flight Lieutenant John Potter, the Jupiter, built from balsa wood and (?...) foil, managed 500 meters in the air, at a height of 10 meters. Then a gust of wind blew it off course and it fell to the ground with a shattered front end. Photo shows after the crash with pedallist-pilot Potter emer.
