The US Air Force unveiled this new supersonic fighter plane, the F-101 Voodoo, November 22nd, with an announcement that it was designed to escort strategic air command atomic bombers or deliver atomic weapons itself deep in enemy territory. Shown here in flight over Edwards Flight Test Center, California, the F-101 is obviously very large for a jet fighter, possibly weighing as much as 40, 000 pounds. The Air Force refused to give any performance or other statistics, but observers estimated it could exceed 800 miles per hour. The Voodoo is powered by two Pratt and Whitney J-57 jet engines, each delivering 10, 000 pounds of thrust at the speed of sound. Total power output of the engines is equal to 40, 000 horsepower. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass).
