Court of Appeals Judge John Marshall Harlan sits at his desk in his chambers at New York's Federal Court Building after receiving word that President Eisenhower has named him for appointment to the Supreme Court. Harlan is 55 and the grandson of a former occupant of the Supreme Court Bench, Justice John Marshall Harlan, who served from 1877 to 1900. Chicago-born, he has spent most of his adult life in New York in private practice. It was only last March that he was sworn in as a Court of Appeals judge. Harlan likes to golf and fish but says he's mediocre in both fields. He owns up to one minor vice'. I'm afraid I smoke too much, he told newsmen as they interviewed him after the unofficial announcement of his nomination. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
