Portrait of Orson Welles

(Original Caption). Orson Welles said October 31st he was offered as much as $170, 000 to star as a genius on a rigged TV show three years ago. He said when he told acquaintances about the offer they just laughed it off as nothing to get upset about. He is shown above in a 1956 file photo. In Paris to make a film Darryl Zanuck, the actor said that when he declined the proposition a notable egghead took his place. He did not further identify the person nor would he name the producer who he said had proposed the fix. He also refused to mention the name of the network or the show. He did say the producer was involved in the hearings of the House special committee investigating the quiz shows.
