(Original Caption). Pentagon Releases MacArthur Papers'. Washington, D.C.: A Pentagon press officer is shown as he distributed copies of the MacArthur Papers among reporters yesterday. The Pentagon said the documents failed to settle conclusively the controversy over whether General Douglas MacArthur did or did not call for Russian help in fighting Japan. The general has said he did not. He has said nobody asked his advice, but if they had I would most emphatically have recommended against bringing the Soviet into the Pacific war at that late date. The preparation of the 107 page report was directed by the defense secretary on April 8, 1955, in response to inquiries by Congress and members of the press. Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass).
