Simon Rodia and His Watts Towers
(Original Caption) 3/27/1953-Los Angeles, California-Stamp collecting? Not for Simon Rodia. Since 1921 he has been keeping busy in his spare time by building a group of fantastic Cambodian-like towers out of junk. Sam, who has been called "the most dedicated artist in America, " constructs his towers from mortar, bottles, bits of tile, an occassional bowling ball, slabs of shimmering mirror and anything else you can name. The tallest web-like tower in the group now soars 125 feet
