(Original Caption). Before death closes out the record book of Man O War, greatest race horse ever developed in this country, his owner, Samuel D. Riddle, will give him such a birthday party as has never before been given an equine member of nobility. This picture of the 21-year-old wonder was made a few days ago, a sort of birthday portrait. Man O War can look back upon a career studded with thrills and records. Five world marks were credited to the horse, all made in 1920, his third year of life and second and final year of racing. In two years of competition the horse won twenty races, lost but one, and was not extended in any of the victories. His declining years have been made happier, no doubt, by the feats of his sons, most prominent of which have been Clyde Van Dusen, winner in 1929 of the Kentucky Derby; War Admiral, winner last year of the Kentucky Derby. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
