PROXY BATTLE FOR THE CENTRAL - WHITE VERSUS YOUNG - Since Robert Young last February made his open bid for control of the nation's second largest railroad, New York Central, a major vote-getting battle has raged to win the proxies of some 40, 000 stockholders. In this photo, Mrs. Mary England of Woodside, L.I. a volunteer worker in the Alleghany-Young-Kirby camp, looks over all the proxies returned to date at their office in the Chrysler Building. Mr. Young claims his side leads the proxy battle three to one. Claims of both sides are possible because each shareholder may receive as many as a dozen proxies and may vote for either side as many times, but only one of his votes, the last, before the annual meeting, counts.
