(Original Caption). L. Winchester, an ardent spiritualist and possessor of the fabulous firearms fortune, fled from New England lightning and thunderstorms because she regarded some of the nature's manifestations as supernatural. Clear across the continent traveled Sarah Winchester until she came to San Jose, Cal. on the lower tip of San Francisco Bay. On the outskirts of the village a D. Caldwell was constructing a 17-room home on a 30-acre plot. Mrs. Winchester purchased the land and the unfinished house and told construction workers to stay on. They did- for 38 years until her death several years ago. Room after room they added, stairway after stairway, hall after hall, blind doors, unfinished chimneys, three elevators, costly art glass windows, paneled walls, inlaid floors, a grand ballroom, a great pipe organ, fireproof vaults, burglar-proof safes. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
