(Original Caption). Garden City, L. I.: H-Bomb Hideaway. An H-Bomb shelter for the family of seven is lowered into a backyard hole at Garden City, L. I. The tank-like shelter, constructed of 3/16-in. steel, is called a Kidde Kokoon and is the product of Walter Kidde Nuclear Laboratories, Inc. Garden City. Capable of sustaining a family for three to five days without assistance, the shelter provides protection against blast damage in the zone that extends form three to 12 miles from a nuclear bomb explosion. It also protects from radioactive fallout. When installed, the tank is covered with three feet of protective earth. It requires a hole 23 feet long, nine feet wide and 11 feet deep. The shelter has its own gasoline generator, a chemical toilet and a specially designed filter to remove radioactive particles from the air. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
