Clydside Docks; Cranes and seagulls silhouetted against the sky
17th July 1954: Cranes and seagulls silhouetted against the sky at a dockyard on the River Clyde in Scotland. The shipyards are the major employers of the area and, while the demand is high, the industry supports the local economy. In July 1954 the Clyde shipyards had about 2, 000, 000 gross tons of shipping under construction and factories were manufacturing enough engines to supply the local trade and export the surplus.
