Traditional Japanese Woodblock Geisha's in a Garden

'This print shows two Geisha's tending to plants in a garden. There are several pots of different shapes and sizes. The Geisha kneeling appears to be tending to Marigolds.Utagawa Toyokuni (1769, Edo - February 24, 1825, Edo) was born as the son of a puppet maker.He learned printmaking as a student of Toyoharu. At the beginning of his career he concentrated on bijin-ga - images of beautiful women. This image is from the 36 views with Meiko (Geisha girls) and is number 34 in the series published by Tstutaya Kichizo.This print forms part of my personal collection.'

'Utagawa Toyokuni (1769, Edo - February 24, 1825, Edo) was born as the son of a puppet maker. He learned printmaking as a student of Toyoharu. At the beginning of his career he concentrated on bijin-ga - images of beautiful women. Toyokuni's success and fame came when he started making yakusha-e or actor portraits and actor scenes. This image is aA fine Kunisada Genji double half-length portraits series designed circa 1850/51 representing the twelve months of the year. This is the third month March.signature: Toyokuni ga, publisher: Minatoya Kohei and forms part of my own private collection of original woodblock prints.'
