Elmira Prisoner-Of-War Camp
Civil War prisoner-of-war camp for Confederates in Elmira, New York, USA, circa 1864. The Union installation, known as Camp Rathbun, fell into disuse as the American Civil War progressed, and was converted into a Civil War prisoner of war camp in the summer of 1864. The camp was dubbed Hellmira by its inmates. (Photo by Archive Photos/Getty Images)
