Scottish Palace
circa 1965: The Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Palace stands at the end of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh and is a popular tourist attraction. The Abbey of Holy Rood ( rood meaning cross) was founded in 1128 by King David I and the Palace was built next to the ruins by James IV in 1498. The building was extensively reconstructed in 1671 on the orders of Charles II, having been attacked in 1544 by the Earl of Hereford and damaged by fire in 1650. (Photo by Central Press/Getty Images)
