21st November 1918: The surrender of the German Fleet to Admiral Beatty at Scapa Flow in the Orkneys. The German ships were scuttled by their crews on 21st June 1919, one week before the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, to prevent Allied Forces using the vessels. However, due to a shortage of materials, some of the ships were salvaged and put to use by the Allies. (Photo by Topical Press Agency/Getty Images)
